After winning the BBC Komla Dumor Award last year, Nancy Kacungire has established herself as a force to reckon with on international broadcaster BBC. The award which was established to honour Ghanian presenter Dumor, for BBC World News, who died suddenly aged 41 was a tremendous step to her success.

According to Chimp Reports (story by: Alex Alinda June 9, 2016) an online news and entertainment website, this former NTV Uganda news anchor, Nancy Kacungira has joined the world’s largest broadcaster, the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC).

Kacungira, won the first BBC World News Komla Dumor award, beating almost 200 other applicants last year, something which could have started her journey to BBC.

She will be joining Ugandan journalist and former Capital FM ‘’The Big Breakfast’ show host, Allan Kasujja, who works with BBC Radio.

Who is Nancy Kacungira?

Nancy Kacungira left NTV Uganda and joined KTN in Kenya as a news anchor in December 2013. She began her media career as a radio presenter while still at Makerere University, working her way up from an intern to Deputy Programme Director by the time she graduated.

She earned her Master of Arts degree in Communication Studies from the University of Leeds, where she graduated with distinction. In 2010, Kacungira co-founded Blu Flamingo; a digital media management company that she owns with her older sister Seanice Kacungira.

In 2012 she began her TV career as a news anchor at NTV Uganda, and was selected the following year to host the Uganda chapter of President Obama’s Town Hall with Young African Leaders, which was conducted between South Africa, Nigeria, Kenya and Uganda via satellite in a broadcast that reached millions of people.

In January this year (2016), she co-moderated Uganda’s first-ever televised presidential debate, alongside Allan Kasujja. Read more about the Komla Dumor award
